Dear Parent/Carer

Re: The ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥ Sports Days 2024

The PE Learning Area is once again preparing for the annual ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥ Sports Days, which will take place on Monday 17th June & Tuesday 18st June 2024. Students will compete in their Year Groups and Colleges and the events will take place on the sports field at The ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥.

Your daughter/son’s Sports Day is as follows:

  • Year 7 – Monday 17th June 9.00am – 11.55am
  • Year 8 – Monday 17th June 12.20pm – 3.15pm
  • Year 9 – Tuesday 18th June 9.00am – 11.55am
  • Year 10 – Tuesday 18th June 12.20pm – 3.15pm

All students need to attend their normal lessons until the time their Sports Day starts. Their teacher will then escort them down to the field. On the day of their Sports Day students will be allowed to attend school in their College PE Kit and academy tracksuit for the day. Students will not be permitted to wear any other kit or tracksuit during their Sports Day. Students should still bring their bags and lesson equipment.

The timings of the Sports Day allow all students in Year 7 and 9 to have their lunch in school as normal. For Year groups 8 and 10, students must bring a packed lunch to eat during their session. If students are eligible for free school meals, this will still be provided on the sports field by a member of PE staff. Students must bring water and/or refreshments for the duration of their events as there will be no opportunity for students to visit the restaurant through the duration of their session.

Parents and carers are welcome to support students during their son/daughter’s Sports Day. If you wish to do so, please enter the sports field via GOALs reception in order to sign in with a member of our ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥ staff.

Students who finish 1st and 2nd in their field events and record one of the first two fastest times in each track event will then have the opportunity to represent their College at College Sports Day on Tuesday 25th June 2024.

Students who finish first in any event at College Sports Day will go through to represent The ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥ at the ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥ Sports Day on either Tuesday 9th July (Years 7 and 8) or Friday 12th July (Years 9 and 10) at Dartford Harriers Athletics Club. Details for these events will follow The ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥ Sports Days.

One of our main priorities of these Sports Days is for students to try their best in their selected events and most importantly have fun. In order for this to be achieved, we expect students to behave in an appropriate manner which includes supporting other athletes and remaining respectful to staff. If students fail to meet behaviour expectations they will be ‘on called’ as per our behaviour system and removed to college for the remainder of the Sports Day.

This year our Student Voice team will be selling sweets during all of the Sports Days to raise money for our school library. If you would like to buy any on the day please bring cash to school as this will be the only method of payment.

Finally, students need to be prepared for a variety of weather conditions on the day. We recommend that if rain is forecast students bring a rain jacket and if sun is forecast students apply sun cream, bring a hat and lots of water. This year each college area will have a sheltered zone to protect from both rain and sun.

Sports Day will only be cancelled if conditions are extremely poor as there is no time left to reschedule during this Module. Please do not hesitate to contact us on 01322 620435 or email andrew.pickett@leighacademy.org.uk if you have any questions regarding these events.

Yours faithfully

Andrew Pickett | Coordinator of PE
